How it all started... A private residence, an Episcopal Church building, a Seventh-Day Adventist Church building, a Chevrolet garage, a public library basement, and even the funeral home chapel - these were all meeting places of the little group of believers in Colville between the years 1953 and 1959. It all began in the home of Mr. Walt Hughes in September of 1953. Pastor Harvey Taylor drove from Wenatchee, a distance of almost two hundred miles, every Friday night to teach a Bible class. For many years the First Baptist Church of Colville was the only Regular Baptist church in the northeast corner of the state, until two churches were planted from this group: Calvary Baptist in Chewelah (now Chewelah Baptist), and Lakeview Baptist Church in Republic.
